Peanut Butter Recall Update

Mike SimonMarch 02, 2007 2:41 PMThe FDA has indicated that the contamination of peanut butter manufactured by ConAgra Foods may have been due to dirty jars and equipment.
Additionally, the recall was again expanded. The recall had previously included all Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter made from May, 2006, forward, but now includes all peanut butter made by ConAgra at its Sylvester, Georgia plant from December 2005 forward.
The peanut butter recall has also been expanded to include products other than jarred peanut butter. ConAgra sold some of the peanut butter in bulk to another manufacturer where it was incorporated into other products. The products at issue are:
1. Sonic Ready-to-Use Peanut Butter Topping in 6-pound, 10.5-ounce cans. This product may also have been used in peanut butter shakes, peanut butter fudge shakes, peanut butter sundaes and peanut butter fudge sundaes made by Sonic up to February 16, 2007; and
2. Carvel Peanut Butter Topping in 6-pound, 10-ounce cans. Carvel also used the topping until February 16, 2007, in Chocolate Peanut Butter, Peanut Butter Treasure, Peanut Butter & Jelly and Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Sundae Dasher ice cream products, and peanut butter-flavored ice cream in Carvel ice cream cakes.
The salmonella outbreak started in August and has been confirmed to have sickened 370 people.
